Conzap Wednesday: Dental Chair Concept Looks Friendly Enough

October 31, 07 by You Teck

dentalchair.jpg

I’ve always had the phobia of visiting dentist for I don’t have a particularly nice experience dealing with them when I was younger. Having said that, seeing the above dental chair that is designed by Chengli Hung does somehow reduce my phobia to a certain degree.

Sporting a fresh yellow seat, it makes it looks a little more inviting to take a sit on and the designer certainly did his work to make it feel that way as well. The moon shaped chair was designed in such a way that unnecessary parts are brilliantly concealed (come on, admit it, we are all fearful of those suction tubes) within the body shell, thus resulting in an overall hygiene improvement as its much more easier to clean.

Maybe, just maybe I would actually look forward to my dental trip if they got one of these chairs.

Capcil is a cool looking pencil sharpener

Capcil.jpg

Design Tuesday-I’m sure most of us have used a pencil sharpener before and I reckon that none of the ones I’ve ever used is as cool as Capcil. Other than looking good, Capcil is also designed to be ergonomic fit to hand and the rubber grip certainly lend weight to that.

Although not many of us might be using the conventional pencil anymore, I’m sure that the designers who still use them will find Capcil a delight.

Design Tuesday: Pin It With MU USB!

October 30, 07 by You Teck

Deigned by Tao Ma, the MU USB is made specially for corporate events, subject conference and exhibition where organizers/visitors are most likely required to put on a tag.

MUUSB.jpg

Although it looks like a badge on the outside, there is actually a USB flash drive attached to it and you could easily slide out the drive if you need to use it. The badge itself will make the wearer very fashionable and what better place to use it than on a fashion event?

Wacky Monday: Kaboom!

October 29, 07 by You Teck

I’m sure many of us have played bomberman before and don’t we love those mind blowing bombs that we could blow off in chains?

BombermanExplodingBomb.jpg

Well, you could now own one of these plush “bombs” in the real life for Think Geek have just loaded them into their inventories. For a start, the bomb features an electronic motion sensor which could give a “blup” sound, the sound of a burning fuse and a booming noise.

In my opinion, these plush bombs look perfect for some creative games during summer camps where players are given forfeit if the toy results in a boom noise while it’s still in their possession. I’m sure the sound of a burning fuse will certainly add quite a bit of intensity to the game as well.

Priced at $24.99 USD, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a bit of combo with either the red or black Bomberman Exploding Bomb.

Chill Out Friday: Its All About Coffee

October 26, 07 by You Teck

coffeecup.jpgTime flies and once again, its Friday. I hope everyone is getting into the mood to party and recharge your energy cells through the weekend. The post I’m going to write about is all about coffee and it might be interesting to note that with 25 million people employed in the industry, coffee is second only to oil in world trade.

What is coffee?
Coffee is the seed of a cherry from the tree genus Coffea, a tree yielding about 1kg (2lb) of coffee per year. There are more than 25 species of coffee, the 3 main commercial types being Robusta, Liberia and Arabica, the latter representing 70% of total production.

Where did it all started from?
Although coffee is widely believed to have been grown near the Red Sea since the 7th century, an Arabian author of the 15th century, Shehabeddin Ben, actually has a different account for the origin and he wrote that the Ethiopians enjoyed coffee ever since anyone could remember.

By the 16th centuries, coffee plants were found throughout the Yemen region of Arabia and it was only through a Turkish ambassador visit to Louis XIV in 1669 that coffee manage to find its way into Europe.

Coffee was further spread by the Dutch and French into different regions such as Java , Brazil and Central America. Today, coffee is planted in moist regions around the world.

Some side effects……
Women who drink 2 or more cups of coffee a day also have an increased risk of developing osteoporosis. This, however, can be offset by drinking milk or yoghurt to replace the lost calcium.

Most studies have found that high caffeine consumption impairs fertility, and taken during pregnancy may cause premature or defected birth.

Quick Facts

  • Caffeine is known medically as trimethylxanthine, and the chemical formula is C8H10N4O2
  • The word “cappuccino” comes from the 16th century Capuchin order of friars, whose hoods were called cappuccinos. A cappuccino is a coffee topped with steamed milk.
  • The word “tip” is also related to coffee. It comes from old London coffeehouses where the waiters’ brass boxes were etched with the inscription, “To Insure Promptness.” In fact, it was in one such coffeehouses which belonged to a Mr Lloyd that a few cargo insurers got together to start the Lloyd’s insurance company.

There we have it, I hope you’ll enjoy this little read up and have learned a little more to the beverage we all drink everyday.
