iPhone Sold In Hong Kong is Definitely 100% unlock

August 17, 07 by You Teck

Well, it’s no longer a myth if the iPhone that will be sold in Hong Kong will be able to make phone calls a not as it has just been confirmed that the iPhone is indeed 100% unlock.

Credits to the guys from phone daily who went down to the store to check out if it’s the real deal. The phone was tested with a sim card from CSL (A Hong Kong network provider) and there was attempt to connect to the internet through EDGE as well. Sites that were tested include hk.yahoo.com,www.phonedaily.co and mobile.163.com and loading took less than 30 seconds.

The moment of truth arrives when the call that were made to a weather reporting line was connected. View the video for more details on the call:

The merchants wasted no time in hiking the price of the fully unlocked iPhone though. Pricing at $16,800 HKD ($3200 SGD), the price is close to double the amount of the half unlock iPhone (Can’t make phone calls).Seriously, only the real ‘hardcore’ fans would want to get the iPhone at that ridiculous price. I wonder how would the reaction be when the iPhone hits Singapore. There’s no concrete answer to the hack although methods like the Clone SIM and Turbo SIM were discussed.

QWERTY users: Typing Speed On iPhone 2x slower than on QWERTY Phones

August 17, 07 by You Teck

Ok, here’s a study from Chicago-based usability consultancy User Centric, Inc. which did a compared testing on the iPhone with phones sporting a QWERTY keyboard.

Their study actually show that QWERTY users took almost twice as long to create the same message on the iPhone as it did on their QWERTY phone. I personally feel that it takes time to adapt to a different typing method and it’s pretty much the same as adapting to use a phone from a different brand that you never used before.

Here’s an excerpt from the study:
“Our study indicates that both QWERTY and multi-tap users are likely to have some level of initial frustration with the iPhone’s touch keyboard and corrective text features. Although our analysis suggests that both types will eventually adapt to the iPhone’s features, the learning curve for texting on iPhones will be steeper for QWERTY phone users than multi-tappers.”

Unlocked iPhones to hit Hong Kong

August 07, 07 by You Teck

It seems like the iPhone has finally hit the shores of South East Asia and the first stop finds the iPhone landed at Hong Kong.

There’s actually two side, one (2 weeks ago) that states that both 4GB and 8GB is available but can’t use the phone function while the other (latest) states the only the 8GB is available with phone function capability that works with non-AT&T SIM cards.According to the latest news, there will only be 8GB models available, and they will be priced at $1200 by parallel import, they also heard that you would get a 5-8% discount if you pre-order. Bottom line is the iPhone price have been marked up way too high and the whether it’s fully unlocked has yet to be proven yet. Thus, the better option is to wait out.

In the mean time, we’ll be ringing our suppliers back in Hong Kong to check out if its the real deal as well.
