The 3 Coolest TV sets From Across The Generations

October 04, 07 by You Teck

I believe that TV has being a big part of our lives since it was invented and there’s so many changes within the design and functionality that 30 or 40 years ago, people would most probably never envision how TVs will evolve into how they are today.

Well, I’ve personally chosen 3 cool TV sets that spans across the generations:

1) Semivisor TV by Rene Bartholemy from 1928

This could be the granddaddy of all TV sets.

2) Kuba Komet home entertainment system from 1960

What a odd size piece of design.

3) A Japanese tiny TV that has only just been released in Japan

Kinda of cyborg looking eh?

DDSquare Shows Support For A Common Cause

October 03, 07 by You Teck

pinkforoctober.jpg I found the Pink for October site through a fellow myBlogLog User (all-for-women) and found out that they’ve got a really nice ongoing cause for Breast Cancer awareness.

Long story short, here’s the theme of the site:

Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research.

But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event.

The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), go out to that World Wide Web thing and educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that newfound knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

We hope that you will:

1. Turn your web site/blog pink (however you like, it’s up to you).
2. Educate yourself about the multiple issues related to breast cancer.
3. Take that newfound knowledge and teach someone else what you know.

Frankly speaking, I don’t really like the color pink (solid) but since its for a good cause, I will put personal preference aside and put up the banner. Question is, will you do the same as well?

Points To Note: Our Theme was changed in September so we didn’t really went pink because of the cause. Does it means that you’ll have to go pink to show support? Absolutely not! If it’s for only a month, will it even help? Even if it reaches only 1 person, I’ll still put up the banner.

Here’s a useful tip for Window Vista users on how to rip music from CD to MP3 for free (perfectly legal).

1. In Vista open the Windows Media Player (wmp)
2. Click the downward arrow under the Rip button
3. Select Format and then MP3

4. You may also want to increase the Bit Rate if you want higher quality music but larger file sizes
5. Click the Rip button and insert your CD

It might not be new to everyone but I’m sure that there will be some who will find the above tip useful.

Does Milk Really Contains Stress Relieving Hormone?

September 28, 07 by You Teck

Apparently, one Japanese company does think so and they took it to the next level by coming up with a super-premium milk for the stressed-out adults.

adultmilk.jpg

Tokyo-based Nakazawa Foods have named this super-premium milk of theirs the “Adult Milk” with a target market of adults who live in a stressful society. The magic behind this “super-premium milk” is its high amount of stress-relieving hormone called melatonin which can be found in it.

Having a high level of curiosity, I decided to do a little research on the term melatonin (hey, I do my homework as well huh!) and found out that most living creatures(that includes you and me) do produced these type of hormone and it’s suppose to trigger the body’s sleep response.

If you’re wondering how all these relates to stress relieve, here’s the lowdown. When we are under stress, we tend to produce less of this hormone. If we produce less of this hormone, there’s a high change of insomnia which will led to insufficient sleep. We all know what are the sort of things that can happen if we don’t get enough sleep and that’s where the supplements of melatonin comes into place.

It’s suppose to help our bodies know when it’s time to go to sleep and when it’s time to wake up, something like a re-regulation of the system clock. No wonder there’s a saying that says you’ll sleep easily if you drink a glass of warm milk before going to bed. That’s quite a bit of science lesson yeah?

Back to the “super premium milk”, it’s call a premium milk because they contain three to four times as much melatonin as usual milk and they’re collected at a special time slot. The milk is taken from cows once a week at the break of dawn as they discharge a lot of a stress-relieving hormone called melatonin during the night, the company said.

Not all types of melatonin are good as I’ve a really interesting finding here where the source says that if melatonin comes from animal tissue, this grade of melatonin may be accompanied by viruses or proteins that could cause an antibody response and they highly recommend that people stay away from it.

Considering that the milk are bottled within six hours of milking at a farm north of Tokyo, I highly doubt that there will be any processing done and that does leave a lot to be desired huh?

Well, premium stuff certainly don’t come cheap and a bottle of this milk cost a whopping 5000 Yen /$44 USD/ $65 SGD. Holy Cow Moo, the price is easily 30 times of what I’m getting for my bottle of milk and it would make a lot more sense to simply  purchase a bottle of melatonin supplement as it can bought at a price of just $12 USD.

Bottom Line: If you really need a dosage of melatonin, consult a doc and get the supplements instead. It’s cheaper and safer.
