Samsung G800: Sibling Of The Samsung G600

July 27, 07 by You Teck

5 megapixel camera phone Samsung G800 will be joining its sibling G600 and it will be will be available early next year.
There’s a lot of guessing game going around in mobile-review and someone is guessing that the camera module might be able to do 3x optical zoom!

No concrete specifications on the G800 but you can expect built in bluetooth, USB, 3G or HSDPA connection.

Motorola Project to Integrate Projectors into Cellphones Underdevelopment

July 26, 07 by You Teck

Imagine being able to project a movie, video, or a slide-show from your mobile onto a wall, instead of forcing friends to huddle around your phone’s tiny screen.

If this project was to be completed, I firmly believe it will change the way people look at mobile phones. With this projector, you can literally display all those sweet and best moment of your life and share it with the people you love on the fly.

For example, during a BBQ session or even when you want to propose to your lady.Motorola and Microvisionis are currently working together on a handset that will feature a Microvision’s WVGA ( 854 x 480 color pixels) wide angle scanner, first seen at the Society of Information Display annual conference in May 2007.

It’s really something to anticipate, video calls on a projector, sounds like a sci-fi movie huh?

Nokia N98 -The Unofficial concept

July 17, 07 by You Teck

From the look of this great photoshop work from the French, the Nokia N98 looks really cool and sleek. It’s very much an upgraded version from the N95 and here’s a peek into it’s specifications:

  • 7.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
  • 5x optical zoom (20x with digital)
  • 3.5? inch touch screen
  • integrated GPS receiver
  • integrated TNT receiver (Télévision Numérique Terrestre - this is what French call digitally broadcast TV channels)
  • Symbian S70 3rd edition
  • 3D graphics accelerator
  • bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi (b,g,n)
  • HSDPA
  • video recording at 720×576 and 30fps
  • Multimedia support

The camera function is rock solid as it comes with a 5x optical zoom made. It is not mentioned in this list but I’m sure the N98 will be able to handle microSD cards and have a battery that lasts 12 hours on a single charge.

I believe the price for the N98 will really be high end as the nokia N95 cost a sum of $1099SGD.

NTT DoCoMo Begins Super 3G Experiment

July 14, 07 by You Teck

Press release article from NTT DoCoMo.

TOKYO, JAPAN, July 13, 2007 — NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that this month it began testing an experimental Super 3G system for mobile communications. With this experiment, DoCoMo will seek to achieve a downlink transmission rate of 300Mbps over a high-speed wireless network.

Super 3G features low-latency data transmission and improved spectrum efficiency. It is a highly advanced version of High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), which have been evolved from W-CDMA packet transmission technologies standardized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The 3GPP, a telecommunications standards organization, is currently discussing standardization of Super 3G under the name Long Term Evolution (LTE).

DoCoMo will begin with an indoor experiment to test transmission speed using one transmitting and one receiving antenna. The company will then expand the experiment to examine downlink transmission by employing up to four Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas for both the base station (transmission side) and mobile station (receiving side); the goal is to achieve a downlink transmission speed of 300Mbps. MIMO is an antenna technology for wireless communications in which different data streams are spatially multiplexed using multiple antennas for both transmission and reception on the same frequency. Also to be examined is the “handover function” — switching of the connection between two base stations.

DoCoMo will also examine the functionality of applications for voice and image transmission, games and the like, key capabilities impacting the Super 3G system’s marketability.

DoCoMo, aiming to achieve sustainable, efficient use of 3G spectrum resources, is leading the discussion over LTE. DoCoMo believes Super 3G will allow the company to make a smooth transition to 4G in the future.

In July 2006, DoCoMo began accepting proposals from suppliers seeking to develop Super 3G equipment and expects to complete development of Super 3G technology by 2009.
