Meet The Rubik Cube That Plays Music

January 08, 08 by You Teck

My guess is that most of you people out there would have most probably played with a Rubik cube before and it’s really a great gadget that can provide great entertainment at very low cost.

What we are going to have here is something that can provide a very different type of entertainment. Nicknamed the ‘Cube’, it’s actually a MP3 player that can be unlocked and turn around.

Other than looking very refreshing, my guess is that the designer aims to use the design to express that listening or playing music is similar to the Rubik cube. Different variations and angles will always give you something new to experience and work on.

The design got a bronze award for the MPIO MP3 player Design competition and it’s most probably nothing more than a design at the moment.

Aren’t this little guys cute? Considering that they only consist of just old nuts and bolts, it makes the handicraft work of the Koichi Miyajima studio staff all the more impressive.

If you reside in Japan, you could even pop by to the NANONANO museum located at Roppongi Hills to pay these little guys a visit.

Here’s another mini robot named Massanova. The one on the right is the doggy version and both of them are handcrafted by an artist named Jun Tanaka.

Motorola DH01 Lets You Watch Live TV on The Go

January 04, 08 by You Teck

Anticipating the trend of 2008, Motorola announced on Thursday that they will be introducing DH01, a device that can play live TV, on-demand video clips and programs saved on digital video recorders.

Here are some of the features:

  • 4.3-inch screen
  • Video at 25fps
  • Users can pause live TV for up to five minutes
  • Rechargeable Battery Life of up to 4 hours
  • Expandable memory slots that allows storage of up to 90 minutes of video

There isn’t any word on the price but Motorola has confirmed that it will be launching at the end of month and sold through television broadcasters, consumer electronics retailers and wireless carriers.

From my personal view, the 2 most useful applications for Live TV would be news and sports. Other than that, there shouldn’t be much need for watching dramas or movies as there are better alternatives.

Probably the coolest factor for the DH01 is its pause function which has a 5-minute memory buffer. It’s a really useful application where you can replay the footage you’ve missed due to interruptions like phone calls.

Live TV on mobile devices is definitely a useful technology and it would be interesting to see how the trends unfold. This is especially so on Apple’s next development of the the iPod.

The ‘Smart’ Piggy Bank

January 03, 08 by You Teck

We all know that the conventional piggy bank is the type where you store your coins in it and you only take out them out when it’s too full for you to slot in another. Now, what would you say if there is one that actually lets you know that it’s going to be full soon?

PigsLife.jpg

Introducing “Pigs Life”, the concept piggy bank that will let you know when full is exactly too full. If you’re thinking that it will produce the sound of “oink oink” when it’s full, I’ve got to disappoint you as that’s not correct. Instead, what it will do is that it will start to release the coin through its butt area when it can’t take on any more coins. It’s unique, isn’t it?

PigsLife2.jpg

In a world where instant gratification occurs almost everyday, having a “Pigs Life” is a really good way to train on delayed gratification. Say you want to buy some snacks or ice cream to chum on, making a promise with yourself that you only buy them when pigs life is full will really be a great way to keep your weight in check. It certainly doesn’t fair that badly as a bedroom decoration item as well.

LumiGram Lets You Take Center Stage

January 02, 08 by You Teck

Attention to all ladies, if it has always been your desire to stand out from the crowd during special events or dinners, look no further than the fashion wear designed by Jacqueline (”Lumi”), a French fashion designer.

The unique thing about the collections is the luminous fabric based on fiber optics which will produce a stunning and classy luminous effect. Now, if the effects generated by these clothes can’t get you the deserved attention, I don’t know what will.

Quoting from the site, “Unlike other light sources like LEDs or Electro luminescence, the light coming from the Luminous Fabric is subtle and mysterious, allowing to create amazing, stylish and wonderfully original clothes and accessories.”

I’m particularly impressed by the custom designs from Lumi and any word lesser than stunning would serve as a great discredit to the designer. For a design that may already be very beautiful, the added luminous effect will certainly make it captivating to the eyes. It’s really a very refreshing combination of fashion and technology that’s rarely seen in the industry.

Knowing that these fashion wears will bring about great attention to the wearer, it will definitely require a confident individual to wear one in the public.

Other than offering fashion collections, LumiGram also offers tablecloths that will definitely provide an all new dinning experience.

Taking into considerations that fiber optics don’t really come cheap, the products made by the luminous fabric definitely won’t come cheap either. The collections are priced at 119.00 EUR per piece but if you’re looking for something special, you can always request a custom design.
